I along with my friends went to mountain regions to have some fun by climbing the mountains and we could able to capture our memories in my sony camera, the picture clarity was good even though the temparature was in minus.Tha sony version that i have has HP’s Real Life technologies that help to remove red-eye and fix lighting and such. There are also some interesting editing features that can do everything like discoloring a photo.

Few days back, i was planning to get one well featured digital camera so have been through this site recently. VAIO (play /ˈvaɪ.oʊ/) is a sub-brand used for many of Sony's computer products. Originally an acronym of Video Audio Integrated Operation, this was amended to Visual Audio Intelligent Organizer in 2008 to celebrate the brand's 10th anniversary. The branding was created by Timothy Hanley to distinguish items that integrate consumer audio and video with conventional computing products, such as the Sony VAIO W Series personal computer, which functioned as a regular computer and a miniature entertainment center. Although Sony made computers in the 1980s exclusively for the Japanese market, the company withdrew from the computer business around the turn of the decade. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a high-end smartphone designed by Sony Ericsson in the Xperia series. It is the first Sony Ericsson smartphone to run the Android operating system. The phone was shipped running Android 1.6 but an upgrade to Android 2.1 was made available starting from 31 October 2010, with a gradual rollout amongst global kits. Originally Sony Ericsson stated that Xperia X10 family will not receive upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or beyond,but have recently changed their minds, and users have started to receive Gingerbread 2.3.3 update since July 29, 2011.

The phone features an 8.1 MP camera and a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. The screen supports NTSC DVD wide-screen resolution. The phone runs Android OS, which enables the use of apps available in the Android Market. Connection speeds up to HSDPA (3G+) are possible with the handset. The UX platform gives Xperia X10 one application to lift together all the user's different communications, Timescape, and one to lift together all the users media, Mediascape.

An Xperia X10 functions as a camera phone, including text messaging, a portable media player, and an Internet client with e-mail, web browsing and Wi-Fi connectivity. The user interface is built around the device's touchscreen, including a virtual keyboard rather than a physical one (Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro goes with a physical keyboard). Third-party applications are available from Android Market, which launched in 2008 and now (20 November 2010) has over 200,000 apps. These apps have diverse functionalities, including games, reference, GPS navigation, social networking and advertising for television shows, films, and celebrities.

Sony presents the DSC-W90 and DSC-W80 digital cameras. THe Sony DSC-W90 features a 8.1 Megapixel CCD sensor, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 3x optical zoom, ISO sensitivity up to 3200, Super Steady Shot anti shake, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

The W80 has similar features as the W90 but it has a 7.2 Megapixel CCD sensor.

Sony DSC-W90 and DSC-W80 both measures 91 x 58 x 22.9 mm and weights 124g. The W90 will be available from March for about $300 and the W80 for $250.

LCD TV For Sale USD105 million in the second quarter

LG Electronics Inc., the world’s second largest producer of liquid-crystal television-display (LCD) plans to boost LCD TV sales to be approximately 40 percent in the next year. This is the impact of this decline to lower the prices and increase the demand.

This company aims to sell 35 million LCD TVs, up from last year with the sales which reached 25 million sets it expects to sell at the end of this year, said Simon Kang, president of LG home entertainment division. The sales which is including plasma TV sets can reach 40 million next year from 29 million this year, he said.

The shipments LCD TV globally are expected to rise 23 percent to 226.7 million set in 2011 from 184.1 million this year.

LG expects sales of LCD TVs that use light-emitting diodes or LEDs will acquire approximately 60 percent of total LCD TV sales next year.

LG, based in Seoul on July 28, earnings declined to 90 per cent to USD105 million in the second quarter. Profit from the home entertainment division fell until 90 percent, while the sales rose to 19 percent.

The XPERIA X10 was first revealed on November 3, 2009.[3]
The Xperia X10 was released in one of its two home countries, Japan, on April 1st, 2010 and has become the quickest-selling smartphone for the carrier NTT DoCoMo. [4] The overall reaction has been positive to the hardware, camera and screen, with negative comments about the lack of support for Android 2.1 and calls for improvement in the custom made user interface [5] [6].

The display is a wide screen, aspect ratio 16:9, with WVGA resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, covered by a capacitive layer that is designed to detect touch by fingers. The 8.1 megapixel camera has with a 16x digital zoom, image stabilizer, auto-focus, geo-tagging, smile detection and face detection. The camera can also record video. The phone has a led light that will help taking pictures and video in poor light. The Xperia X10 has as a 3-axis accelerometer and built in GPS.

The Xperia X10 is called a quad-band phone as it covers all four GSM/GPRS/EDGE frequency bands, but is actually a multi-band phone as it also covers three or four UMTS/HSPA frequency bands. Xperia X10 is sold worldwide and therefore has both common frequency band layouts. [7] These variants of the phone are internally called X10a and X10i by Sony Ericsson. X10a sells in in South America. X10i sells in Asia, Europe and Oceania. Both variants are sold in North America. The X10a is used in AT&T Wireless in the US and Rogers Wireless, Bell and Telus in Canada, while the X10i 3G is used in T-mobile in the US and Wind Mobile and Mobilicity in Canada. [8] In Japan the phone is called SO-01B and sold by operator NTT Docomo with the X10i layout.[7]
The X10i uses GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSPA 900/1700/2100. The X10a uses GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSPA 800/850/1900/2100.

Sony Ericsson has made its own custom overlay on top of the Android operation system called UX, short for User eXperience, which consists of design elements, themes and custom applications. The main applications are Sony Ericsson Timescape and Sony Ericsson Mediascape. Timescape is a program that lifts together Facebook, Twitter, SMS and mail into a flowing column on the home screen. Mediascape is a player and library application for media files that also connects to Facebook and Picasa accounts online and to the phone's contacts list. This makes it possible to attach photos you have taken with the camera to your contacts or send them to your Facebook account. The phone contains all normal smartbook applications and some stand out ones: Wisepilot (navigation software), Google Maps, YouTube, Sony's Play Now and TrackID (to identify a song by recording a small part of it).

The Xperia X10 was released with the operating system Android 1.6, with Android 2.1 being released in the third quarter of 2010. [9] The same release will give the Xperia X10 capability to capture HD video.

The X10 is an Android powered device. The Android OS uses a Linux kernel and has the usual Linux concepts of groups and user-accounts. One of the default user accounts in Linux is called the "root" user. This user has full control over the system. Obtaining "root access" on the system is important for the deployment of custom ROMs. Custom ROMs are usually developed to bring newer versions of the OS to the hardware. As an example, the X10 was released with Android 1.6. Although the X10 has been rooted, the bootloader has yet to be hacked. Because of this, developers are not yet able to load the latest version of Android onto their device. Custom ROMs will not boot without access to the bootloader.

The initial 3UK (and possibly other Mobile Operators) release of firmware contains bugs - Some users report occasional WiFi disruptions on early software versions[10].

Sony Ericsson announced two mini versions of Xperia X10 at the Mobile World Congress 2010. The X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro which has a slide out keyboard, were released in June 2010 and a further addition to the series, X8, will be released in August 2010. [11] Earlier Sony Ericsson has released Xperia X1 and Xperia X2 with Microsoft's Windows Mobile operation system.

Today, AT&T announced the upcoming availability of two new Sony Ericsson phones: C905a Cyber-shot and W518a Walkman.
Of course, the C905a is actually not that new – we first saw it back in November 2008 – but it’s the first 8MP camera phone to hit AT&T, so its launch should be welcomed with enthusiasm.
The two handsets will be available starting July 19. On contract, the price of C905a is of $179.99, while the price of W518a is of $49.99 (both after $50 rebates).
Coming as the US version of C905, Sony Ericsson C905a features an 8MP camera with autofocus, Xenon flash, image stabilization, face & smile detection, and video recording

Everyone's going crazy over the iPhone ever since it was announced. It looks really cool and that new touch screen interface is what impresses me the most.

When it comes to mobile phones though, I'm really a Nokia kind of person. You could say I'm loyal to the brand now after using it so long. Because I'm no technology expert, my reasons for picking and sticking with Nokia were simple.

1) It was the first mobile phone that I ever owned.

2) Its interface was easy to use.

3) Compared to other phones, it's SMS interface was the easiest and fastest to use.

Reason 3 is the key reason for my preference for Nokia phones. I used a Motorola phone for a while and I tell you, their SMS interface sucked big time.

Anyway, I was surfing through Digg as usual and I found out about the new Nokia Aeon. And I must say, it looks damn good.

It seems that having a laptop stamped with an Italian sports car brand is the in-thing these days. Acer has been hanging around the pit-lane with Ferrari, and Asus has teamed up with Lamborghini to create the VX1. It comes in a choice of black or yellow trim - Lamborghini's corporate colors - although there's more to the VX1 than a cool paint job...

Acer's other team loyalty is AMD, so it's perhaps no surprise Asus has gone with Intel. The VX1 is a Centrino laptop. My review model came with a Core Duo T2500 processor clocked at 2GHz, although models with a Core 2 Duo processor will be available soon, Asus tells me. The chipset is the Intel 945PM, so there's no integrated graphics. Asus has gone for the Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 VX with 512MB of Turbo Cache, which is a souped up version of the GeForce Go 7400 but still far from a suitable solution for gaming on the move. This is rather disappointing considering the Lamborghini badge, and one would think that Asus would've fitted a more powerful graphics chip into the VX1.

The review model also came with 2GB of DDR 2 memory - which is more in line with what you would expect from a top of the range laptop - and a 160GB IDE hard drive. It's disappointing (again) that Asus hasn't gone for SATA here - the machine's chipset supports it - as this is quickly becoming the norm on new notebooks. The optical drive is a super-multi DVD writer which handles all the common formats and DVD-RAM. It's not the fastest drive out there and it's not, alas, a slot-load unit.

The optical drive is mounted on the left-hand side of the chassis alongside an ExpressCard 54 bay, a four-pin FireWire connector, an infra-red receiver and a standard VGA connector. There's no DVI or HDMI connector, which again is a shame on a machine so clearly targeting the performance end of the notebook market.

The Kenwood Excelon KVT-815DVD is a single ISO-DIN chassis removable face head unit. It incorporates a 7-inch flip out touchscreen monitor with a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio. When the screen is hidden away, the Kenwood has a “5 x 7” blue color dot matrix display that informs the user on the status of the unit. The KVT-815DVD has the ability to play DVD Video, CD, MP3, and WMA formats and includes a 24-bit digital-to-analog converter for great sound quality. For DVD performance, it uses a Digital Anti-Skip capability of three seconds. Using a new “Z-action” mechanism, the KVT-815DVD adjusts +28 degrees through -21 degrees (in 8 steps) to be installed in many different vehicles without interfering with the dashboard controls.

Fitting all the functionality of the Kenwood KVT-815DVD is not possible. As a result, an outboard control box contains audio and video switching, while also housing the speaker amplifier. The Kenwood KVT-815DVD has the ability to add additional control boxes for every possible feature available on a source unit. Its speaker outputs are rated to deliver a CEA-2006 standard of 22 watts per channel with a maximum claimed power of 50 watts x 4. The KVT-815DVD has front, rear, and a pair of non-fading subwoofer outputs. All RCA outputs are rated to deliver 5 volts, RMS. Additionally, there’s a set of audio video inputs and outputs. The Kenwood KVT-815DVD includes a programmable security code and removable faceplate finished with an industrial silver ebony finish.

Panasonic introduced a new GPS navigation system at IFA 2007 for the European market called Strada CN-GP50N. The device has a huge screen and a good price at 400€.

As opposed to its strong competition in the field, such as TomTom and Garmin, Panasonic decided to focus its experience on the video and audio features of CN-GP50N which made this device more of an entertainment center rather than just plain old GPS navigation.

The display on CN-GP50N measures 5″ – leaving their competition 0.7″ behind – hoping to attract consumers who are looking into watching videos in their vehicle.

Panasonic incorporates maps of 37 European countries, including 1.3 million points of interest and even 3D city maps of certain locations and landmarks. For upgrades to the maps Strada CN-GP50N supports SD cards, but it can also be connected to using the USB port on the device.

The Sony Walkman was originally designed as a music player for couples, based on Akio Morita's observation of teenagers lugging their radios with them on vacations (an incongruity) and came equipped with two headphone jacks and a recording facility. It even had a "hotline" button, partially overriding the sound from the cassette and allowing one user to talk to the other over the music.

Of course, nobody really used it like that and Sony was quick to see that most people used it as a personal, portable music player (unexpected) and redesigned it accordingly.

Here’s one to watch: recall the beginning of the month when Sony briefly outsold Apple’s iPod with its Walkman in Japan, and just how widely that news spread? We’re wondering if this nugget will spread as fast...

Sure, it was significant as it represented the first time in four years Sony had grown a sales lead on its rival, but as we predicted Sony’s little home turf advantage has evaporated already, following Apple’s introduction of the new iPod range, according to BCN.

Apple’s iPod market share shot up to 58 per cent in the week ending September 13, far and away ahead of Sony with 32.1 per cent.

Its a big change - Sony held 47.4 per cent the previous week, compared to Apple’s then 37.1 per cent, Bloomberg informs.

Naturally, we’re suspicious on these statistics because they don’t include iPhone (which is also an iPod) sales though how the total Japanese market for music playing devices including phones shapes up hasn’t yet been revealed by BCN.

Apple has sold near 225 million iPods worldwide since the device launched in 2001. Half of all new iPods sold go to customers who have not previously purchased an Apple music player.

It boasts 100 million iTunes accounts and has shifted 8.5 billion songs so far. Between Jan 6, 2009 and July 21, 2009 the service sold 2 billion songs. That’s interesting when you consider it took Apple between April 28 2003 and January 10, 2007 to sell the first two billion.

Apple says it has 73.8 per cent of the MP3 player market, followed by 18 per cent held by "other", SanDisk at 7.2 per cent and Microsoft at 1.1 per cent share.

The Dell XPS M1210 is a new 12.1-inch screen portable laptop that features the Intel Core Duo processor, rotating 1.3MP web camera, built-in EVDO and an nVidia Go 7400 graphics card. The XPS M1210 will replace the Inspiron 710m offering that was quite a popular seller for Dell. With the M1210 the latest Intel Core Duo processors will be offered, there will be no Core Solo, Celeron or ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processor options. It's apparent that Dell wants to keep the XPS line as a performance focused series, whether it's big or small form factor.

Design and Build

The first thing that's noticed about the XPS M1210 is that it doesn't look like any other Dell designed notebook currently on the market. That's right, no white bumpers like we see on every Inspiron machine currently in the line-up. Personally, I love the M1210 look with the black lid and silver brush keyboard and casing. The blue effects lighting on the front located silver media buttons is very nice. Overall the M1210 look is very pleasing to the eye, and certainly can be called stylish but not gawdy (like some might say the brazen XPS M1710 gaming laptop design is). The look walks a nice line between being cool yet professional.

The build of the M1210 is very good. The casing is made of a magnesium alloy material and this notebook complies with the Dell Road Ready guidelines. The lid is very solid and offers great protection to the screen, push in on the back and you won't see ripples on the LCD. The hinges are nice, rigid enough to hold the screen in place but not overly stiff. The M1210 uses a latchless lid closing design, there is no use of magnets to keep the lid down but when it shuts you can hear it snap shut and spring tension holds the lid in place and closed very well. All of the buttons on the M1210 have a nice feel and are not cheap feeling. The touchpad mouse buttons are especially nice in terms of feedback and travel.

Here is the M1210 side by side with the MacBook 13.3" screen notebook, you can see that the M1210 is thicker than the MacBook, the MacBook could certainly do with some more elevation to help air flow underneath but even factoring out the rubber feet on the M1210 it is still thicker (view large image)

One thing that struck me about the M1210 upon first using it is that, while being a 12.1-inch screen notebook, it can't be called an 'ultraportable'. I call a notebook that's 3 - 4 lbs in weight and 1.0" thin an ultraportable. With the 6-cell battery the M1210 is about 4.4lbs and if you're using the 9-cell it's closer to 4.8 lbs. It's not that thin either, it's about 1.2-inches thick which is thicker than my thin-and-light 1-inch thin ThinkPad T43 notebook. The word portable is certainly fair for the M1210 since it does weigh under 5lbs, but it's not 3lbs like the 12.1" screen Dell Latitude X1 or ThinkPad X60s notebook. What we're dealing with here is better classed as a very portable media and gaming entertainment machine. Due to the integrated optical drive (often left out of 12.1" screen laptops) and dedicated graphics with requisite fan cooling system, the M1210 simply had to be a bit thicker to accomodate the components it can house.

Performance and Benchmarks

Whenever you think of a 12.1-inch screen laptop you start thinking about low voltage processors, and sacrificing performance for the size. The M1210 goes against this notion. The M1210 I have configured with a 2.16 GHz processor and nVidia graphics veritably smokes any other laptop in its 12.1-inch class. I'll go one step further, the M1210 can easily outperform a number of 17" desktop replacement notebooks being sold today.

The Core Duo processor family has proven itself as a great performer in many past reviews on this site, and Dell is offering the higher end Core Duo processor options in the M1210. Core Solo is not even an option for the M1210 -- it's high octane gas only for this machine. The hard drive offerings are impressive, with the option of a 100GB 7200RPM hard drive available -- that's right at the cutting edge of notebook hard drives on the market today. If you're a fan of lots of system RAM, the max RAM of 4.0GB should make you smile. The system under review has 1.0GB of memory, which should be ample for most users, but if you think you need more then there's plenty of room to add it.

Let's look at some benchmarks to see how the M1210 stacks up against fellow notebooks (all benchmarks are done using the stock system setup, no Windows reinstall or removal of programs).

Super Pi is a program that forces the notebook processor to calculate Pi to 2-million digits of accuracy. The XPS M1210 took 1m 11s to calcuate this value with its 2.13GHz Core Duo processor, here's how it stacked up to other notebooks:

Dell's next generation laptop, known as the Latitude XT, is now available in the United States and is known as a convertible laptop. These convertible laptops designed specifically for the corporate market and other business applications.

The Latitude XT is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo 1.2 Ghz low voltage chip, and features a 12.1 inch display
that will allow the laptop to convert to a tablet pc. The laptop also comes equipped with 1 GB DDR2 ram and , in addition to the hard drive, the option to add either a 34GB or 64GB solid state drive.

With its 4 cell battery this laptop is expected to weigh about 4 pounds. The Latitude XT Laptops will have many different options as far as OS's, including Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate, Red Flag Linux, and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

Since it was announced at E3, the Sony PSP Go and its pricing in particular has created a lot of buzz on the web. If you missed it, PSP Go is not so different from the PSP, except that it basically fixes the portability problem and relies on

digital files downloads for game acquisition.

As for the pricing, it's never low enough obviously, but at least we can take a look at Sony's possible motives for a $250 price. Many would throw a comment like "it's dumb not to price it like the DS". Maybe it is, or maybe doing so would be financial suicide, which is indeed, dumb too.

Sony is currently dipping a toe to see how much the market can bear. The PSP Go is more expensive to make than a DS to make, but despite this, it is a better deal to Sony than UMD-equipped PSP. We suspect that the Go's simpler design (no mechanical drive + smaller) will result in better gross margins, which is what Sony needs desperately right now. Sony's end goal is to make money (duh) and sheer market share (at any price) is not the answer to everything, although we don't dispute the benefits of being the market share leader. Today, it is about improving the gross margins so that Sony can survive and fight tomorrow. When MGS Peace Walker and Gran Turismo for PSP hit, we'll see how much console they'll sell. That's probably Sony's plan.

Craving Sony PSP Go Apps? I've received a few emails asking if Sony will be releasing an Application Store for the PSP Go...The short answer is No...The long answer is Yes!

We checked out a working demo version of Skype on the PSP at Sony's booth and are pleased to report that audio quality was pretty decent -- certainly comparable to what we experience when using Skype either on a PC or on the receiving end of one. The only caveat is a bit of lag time in the audio transmission, less than a second but enough to be noticeable. The interface is super simple -- just select the Skype icon and you can see your buddy list of who's online; select someone to ring them up. At the demo station the headset in use was just a regular PSP headset jury-rigged up to the video out jack via the remote control cable -- not something we'll see in production. Since third-party manufacturers will be free to make their own PSP Skype headsets, there should sooner or later be some range of options available for headsets to use according to taste.

We’ve heard it many times before. Sony is working on a PSP phone. It’s going to be a PSP and a phone. Can you imagine that? What a high-tech device that could only be achieved through space age technology! Well, the undying rumor resurfaced again this weekend, as the publication Nikkei business daily reports not-so-new details, according to Reuters. According to this weekend’s scoop, Sony is considering working on a “cellphone-game gear hybrid” in order to “better compete with Apple Inc’s highly popular iPod and iPhone.” Sony is reportedly planning on setting up a project team as early as July to work on this new product, which should combine functions of the current PSP and Sony Ericsson phones.

That’s great, but what I don’t understand is why Sony feels threatened by a “cellphone that can do games” (which is what the iPhone really is) when they clearly have the superior handheld gaming console. I don’t think it makes sense to work on a “cellphone-game gear hybrid” when your standalone console could use a few improvements itself.

We should see how Sony plans to make its next move in the next month or so. Personally, though, I’m not very excited about the possible end-product of all this.

More than 246 million members are registered for the use of this communications software, which enables users to communicate with other Skype users around the world over the Internet. By introducing Skype on PSP, the following features and services will

The PSP is a great machine. Some people say it lacks great games but, while a few more would never hurt, I’ve played plenty. What’s weird is that, not long after PSP’s initial launch, Sony seem to have promoted it as everything but a games machine. New add-on devices have been announced to increase its non-gaming functionality, making its key strength even less clear. So, is it a games machine anymore? In fact, does it need to be?

In my previous entries, I’ve been unsure whether having Skype on PSP, or iPlayer on the Wii, were of any real use. We live in a world where every device competes to be everything to everyone. I understand the financial drive to achieve this, but I don’t think that’s in my interest as a consumer if no device excels at any task.

Versatile devices make us feel better about our purchases. A new range of items announced by Sony, called Go!PSP, add lots of amazing features using snazzy, little USB add-on hardware devices:

Go!Messenger - Voice and video calls, instant messaging (all using WiFi)
Go!View - Download TV, sports and films to watch on your PSP (via a PC) at a feee

The PSP’s connectivity to the PS3 has been talked about for a long time and is still arriving slowly. I hope it will re-awaken interest in the PSP, but not just as PS3’s bitch. The PSP needs a purpose when attached to the PS3. Using a PSP as a remote screen to watch content stored on a PS3 which is acting as a PVR is a great use (ignoring the fact that you can get wireless transmitters to send TV anywhere in your house). But what about game usage when linked to a PS3? There were a handful of clever ideas of this type of connectivity with the N64 and GBA which could plug together, but they were few and far between.

Overall, anything but games that play specifically on a PSP dilute its core offering. Other applications are cool and strengthen the overall PSP benefit but this needs to be the support material for a games machine and not the main focus or it becomes a jack-of-all-trades device. Every device needs identity. If people forget the PSP is a great games machine, publishers will stop creating games for it.

In my mind, the PSP needs portraying as a games machine once again. Several years old and it still looks and plays great. Some people comment that good games for the PSP are limited but I’m not so sure. It depends what you want to play and where. For me, portable (it is the first P in PSP after all) gaming is 80% snackable games for travel and 20% console gaming experiences (like adventures or racing games) that really need long periods and somewhere stable to sit. I’ve enjoyed and completed at least 5 PSP games in the last few months - it would have been more had my DS, some books and the backs of my eyelids not all had their fair share of my daily commute time. Yes, more good games would be great, but good PSP games do exist - they’re just not identical to the gameplay of those on your home console.

Sony Japan today revealed a new TV tuner add-on for their PSP portable gaming system. The PSP-S310 tuner plugs into the PSP’s cartridge port and provides digital television reception on the system’s TFT screen.

Unfortunately, the tuner is only planned for markets that support 1seg digital broadcasts at this point, which means that you won’t be able to use it outside of Japan. Also, it will only work with the newly released, thin PSP models (PSP-2000), not the original model (PSP-1000.) The tuner is expected to be released on September 20th for ¥6980 (about $57 USD.)

The Sony DSC W50 is a six megapixel digital camera with a 3x optical zoom lens. It follows on from earlier highly acclaimed models in the DSC W series, but Sony have made one important change. The LCD screen is 2.5" in size. This size has almost become the standard for pocket sized cameras. The screen is made up of 115,000 dots. A number of useful indicators are displayed on the screen. These include battery remaining, storage remaining and an exposure warning. A histogram is also available. The good news is that Sony have squeezed an optical viewfinder onto the DSC W50. These are becoming increasingly rare on the smaller models...

Batteries and Memory Card:
A lithium ion battery (NP-BG1) is used to supply power to the camera. Sony supplies both a battery and charger with the DSC W50. Sony estimates you should be able to take around 300 shots before the battery needs to be recharged.

The camera comes with 32mb of storage built into it. Therefore a memory card is NOT supplied with the camera as standard. Although Sony are more generous than most with the amount of memory they build into a camera I was only able to take 15 photos before the memory was full. Therefore you will almost certainly need to buy a memory card to go with the camera. It is compatible with Memory Stick Duo cards. It is very important to ensure the memory stick you buy have Duo in its name as standard memory sticks are too large for this camera

Over the years we have helped our customers avoid the many pitfalls than can easily be avoided. If you’re an estate agent and struggling with digital photography, then we hope you find this guide useful.

Composition

This part is down to the person taking the pictures and is fairly common sense, but you would be surprised how many dustbins and toys etc appear on the front of house details. My most successful estate agents pay great attention to this, when joint marketing properties the difference between one agents photo’s and another is incredible. Sometimes taking pictures from a low or high point or slightly to the side of a property can make all the difference.

Wide Angle lenses to enable capturing most of internal rooms and external shots with restricted distance. The camera should have a lens that is 28mm (in 35mm camera terms) or wider. (The smaller the number the wider the field of view). Most cameras that have wide angle lenses specify it (in Traditional 35mm film camera equivalent terms) Unfortunately quite a lot of cameras, especially the new Digital SLR Cameras do not show the specification of the lens in 35mm equivalent terms so it is hard to compare like for like, for example the Canon EOS 350D lists a 18-55mm lens, but in 35mm terms this is actually 28.8mm to 88mm lens, and yes you can use some of your old lenses but multiply them by1.6x .

Photo shape!

Traditional 35mm film cameras usually used pictures that had an aspect ratio of 3:2 which are the same sort of shape as landscape A4 paper, some digital cameras take 4:3 shaped pictures that are the shape of most computer screens i.e a lot squarer. On many new cameras you can select either shape, but on quite a lot of the Digital SLR (removable lens cameras) you are stuck with one shape only. This could effect the layout of your details and mess up your templates, or web pages, obviously you can change your templates, but not if you are one office out of a group. This can be changed in software but is another step, so I would suggest you pick a suitable one.

Good Quality Photos

These days you should aim for a camera with 5M pixels or more, although these are often capable of capturing far higher resolution pictures than you need. But is not just the number of pixels that count but the quality of the lens and the camera.

Are your pictures too dark?

When cameras are used in their standard mode they are often set to average or evaluative metering. This often means then when about 1/3 of the picture is brightly lit sky that the actual house is very dark in the picture, look for a setting in the metering for either center weighted metering(or spot metering if you don’t have centre weighted) which takes all of its readings from the central area of the picture i.e the house, you could be amazed at the difference, alternatively use the exposure compensation + or – buttons to manually brighten the image whilst you are looking at the image on the back of your camera before you take the shot.

On internal photography, you will often be looking straight at a window at the end of the room so with the average metering on you will get pictures of dark rooms, so with centre weighted metering set look slightly away from the window in to the corner of the room, ½ depress the picture taking button, keeping the button in recompose your shot back facing the window and push the button all the way. I would also often use the flash in fill mode so that it fires regardless of light coming in through windows etc, but this is not suitable in all cases.

Ease of use

To enable you to market your properties to their full potential it is essential that the outside and the inside look spacious and inviting.
I wish I had a pound for everybody that visited our stand at PCS that had purchased a Digital SLR and said they had no idea how to work it. Digital SLR cameras are capable of taking the best pictures but if you are not a keen photographer then you would probably take better pictures with a simpler camera..

Files Sizes

If you are printing details from Word for example and the front picture is about 6x4” then this does not need to be a huge 8 million pixel photo, try to resample it to the smallest file size you can before you lose print quality. Apart from freeing space on your PC this will also print much faster, this is particularly important if you have a lot of pictures per detail or you produce lettings list with loads of pictures, just because you have made the picture look smaller in Word does not mean that the files size is any smaller. I am often asked why is this lettings list taking a long time to print, upon investigation I then find out the print job is spooling into hundreds of Megabytes because each picture is at full resolution even though they may only appear in the document as a two inch image.

Here are 10 top things to consider when looking to purchase a digital camera: -

1. Price: This can vary from around $100 to up to $10,000 for a high end professional camera. You can buy one with good resolution and options for under $600. Ones with more manual control settings can be found for around $600-2000 dollars, usually suited to serious amateurs.

2. Resolution: To print good quality color photos at the standard film sizes 4"x6" or 5"x7" you’ll need a 1-2 megapixel camera. If you are printing as large as 8"x10" then you’re going to need a higher resolution around 2-3 megapixels.

3. Viewfinder: Low-end digital cameras provide an optical viewfinder while more expensive ones replace the viewfinder with a LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). Look towards purchasing one with an LCD display. Kodak makes digital cameras with superb displays so have a look at those.

4. Focus: Most cameras are either fixed-focus or autofocus, which is suitable for the average digital camera user. With a fixed-focus lens everything from a few feet to infinity is in focus. The only problem with this is when shooting pictures up close. Autofocus will automatically bring whatever is in the centre of the viewfinder into focus.

5. Storage: Many cameras come with a small memory card, but if you want to take lots of pictures or footage, it is a good idea to check whether what is supplied is enough. Chances are it won’t be, so look at how much a new ‘decent’ capacity memory card etc is going to cost for that particular model.

6. Compression: If you want the highest possible image quality, look for a camera that will let you save pictures in "CCD raw mode" which means with no compression at all.

7. Batteries: It is important to get a camera that will accept rechargeable batteries. There are three varieties of batteries available Nickel Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Lithium-ion (Li-ion or LiOn). A camera may accept only one or two kinds of batteries so be sure to find out what kind.

8. Power Saving: To save battery power, use a camera that accepts an AC adaptor.

9. Interface: If you are interested in maximum speed you should keep your eyes open for cameras and card readers that support FireWire

10. Video Output: This can be invaluable for presentations. If you would like to do this, look for a camera with a video-output terminal. It allows you to display your pictures on a TV or projector.

A couple of weeks ago we told you all to mix your hair products before applying, not only will it give you some extra benefits, it gets rid of the massive amounts of product that can cause some grease in your hair.

Though people still say to mix the products, I do have to warn you that there are some precautionary things to take note of. For one, never, I repeat, never, mix relaxers, perms, permanent hair colors, semi-permanent hair colors, or bleach. Never! And another side note, you can mix shampoo and conditioner, but your better off not doing it. When the two form a mixture a salt forms that prevents the conditioner from working.

Tip: Mix everything and observe for a couple of minutes before you apply. If the mixture looks weird then I wouldn’t try it.

Tigi Bed Head After-Party
The name says it all: if you’re walking home in last night’s shoes, at least your hair can look good. The hot pink After-Party container/pump looks like a mic and the product itself smoothes flyaways and tames hair-of-shame like a champ. By far the best-smelling hair product I’ve ever used.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo
Great for color treated hair. This is the one in the light purple bottle and my hair always drinks it up. It just feels luxurious to use Pureology products in general, and VAIN has just about all of them.

This anti-frizz polishing milk doesn’t have the scent or pizzazz packaging of Bed Head After-Party (yep, I said pizzazz!), but it’s a light n’ lovely product for soothing your hair. Truly one of my favorites. Use After-Party casually; take Outshine home to your parents.

I told myself I wouldn’t cry! Like listening to PJ Harvey (a LOT) and making completely avoidable life choices, this amazing, magical purple goo was an essential part of the dawn of my 20s. I don’t even know what it did, exactly, but my hair always looked better and smelled really good when I used it. AND THERE WAS A TEENY PLASTIC PIG AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH CONTAINER. So random, so great.

So there you have it. As Kevin Murphy and I explore new ground in our relationship together (I just met his Fresh.Hair dry shampoo and Body.Guard smoother and I think they liked me!!), I can’t help but take an occasional visit down hair product memory lane. Your firsts and favorites are always the hardest to forget
